There Is No God

And no Santa Claus and no Tooth Fairy and no Easter Bunny. The agnostic has nowhere left to hide after the devastating logic on display in Dawkins is allowed a forum in your brain.

While I'm a spiritual person, I can no longer ignore the sound reasoning of Hitchens and Dawkins and must come out as an atheist. Should you disagree, I challenge you to give this book or Hitchens' God is Not Great a fair read and come to the same conclusion. If we are to take the next step as a human race towards the amicable resolution of the festering wounds religion has inflicted on the world, we must first confront the animal in us that still trusts in the myths of childhood.

Time to move on.

I agree.
But, as much as I have banged that particular drum for more than forty three years, I still do not accept that mankind is ready to leave its conviction in a supreme being. It is too deep seated in their collective pysche to simply put to one side and move on.
They won't.
They can't.
Let's face it, man has been creating god's for millenium and as much as Jews, Christians and Muslims might like to beleive it, their God is just another god. Just another mythological deity and then based on Zorastra.
Even the miracle of The Christs birth, the bit about Jesus (real name Yoshua - check your Bible)being born in a stable, is just a re-run of another, earlier gods, tale.
BUT, and this is where you and I must agree to disagree, there are a number of religious people who strictly adhere to their faith, who believe, as mad as it may seem, in a being they cannot see or touch or talk to, and who refuse to kill, maim or injur others.
Then there are people like me, some form of mutant Taoist/ Confuscianist/Pagan (if there can be such a thing) who does not want to hurt anyone but who would kill if attacked or saw his family attacked.
Is there a God?
Show me him.
I believe that we humans are the supreme animals on this planet. We differ from our brother animals in that we have a spiritualltiy about us and a creativity. We also have science. Science teaches us only to believe in what we can prove to be and not the reverse therefore, again, is there a God?
Show me him.

Interesting post.

I believe that we create God in our minds... and that what we create is what works... energetically...so, therefore, what we have faith in really does work, because it moves the energy in our favor. I'm one of those mixed spiritual type persons, too... and, not ready to let go of a few things that are simply ingrained in me. In some form, shape, or fashion, I believe that WE are God... WE are the Creators... part and parcel of the bigger Illusion of GOD... co-creators, if you will, with the Supreme Power...

Agreed... god is NOT religion... no more than faith is religion...

Religion is organised. Therefore this creates issues. Having faith as an individual is far less problematic but when an 'office' organise religion then the whole thing falls apart.
If you need to talk to God, go direct.

We are all divine and have been removed from our own divinity by organised religions.

We are all Gods and Goddesses, some more evolved and some truly attaining their divinity....

There may be no God ! (another debate!) But there certainly are Goddesses.....
