Democracy! How can a choice between two political parties, neither of which truly represents the people be a democracy?
Nothing will change, the fat cats will get fatter, and the oil companies richer and atrocities will still be carried out world wide in our name. Capitalism needs the underdog, needs peaks and troughs and a democratic change of leadership is simply a distraction from the price of oil, food, and housing.
Obama will no doubt now be blamed for the global slump in the economy, just as Gordon Brown is blamed here in the UK, he will not be able to change anything because capitalism is too entrenched world wide, too many rich and powerful people have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo.
This can be heaven or this can be hell and capitalism with it’s constant majority of losers makes our beautiful world hell for too many people, innocents are brow beaten into conforming to a regime that will only serve them as an undermined, underpaid often confused member of the peasantry.
To accept democracy as anything other than an illusion and capitalism as a necessary and unchangeable way of life is to accept defeat, for us, for our planet and for our children. The planet, our mother earth will continue to be raped and pillaged in the name of capitalism and innocents will continue to be murdered in the name of democracy.
We must begin to think, theorise, debate and develop new ways that the world can be led, we need a brighter future than the one offered by capitalism, a fairer future, with peace, people allowed and encouraged to think and be responsible for themselves. It’s easy to hunker down and declare that nothing can change, but they can be because all things change.
Democracy, as we know it is just a way of bolstering and backing capitalism, there is enough of everything to go around, we could all share and still have surplus, but to begin we must be open minded, honest with ourselves and to dare think for ourselves and not be scared to communicate our thoughts.
A lot to ask? Perhaps we have to begin somewhere though and a deeper and more realistic look at the political and monetary system we are all living under seems a good place to start, otherwise I will always be banging my head against those two walls democracy and capitalism and I have a head ache already!

Believe... I do...never give up... I don't... if one falters, we stand as ONE, so no one falls... last night was the start of change... and change comes about as fast as time does... one day at a time.
Peace & Love!
Hi Sexy, Good to see you here. I totally agree with you. We are all too keen to believe in the light winning over the dark. Best option thus far has been a compromise.
Not to argue against shimmerings point of view but wasn't it simple blind faith that allowed the Nazi party to gain control of Germany?
Obama certainly seems to have good intentions BUT, the USA and Britain make money out of the arms race. Both are guilty of supplying weapons to dubious contries. Obama will only too soon find himself in a situation where he HAS to either cripple the economy of his native land or listen to the wisdom of his soul.
In my experience the economy and the safety of the nation state always wins.
Hi Shimmerrings, thank you for your comment, I don't mention giving up, in fact I think we may have already given up, by refusing to see that there are and can be many viable alternatives to Democracy (as we know it today) and Capitalism which are patently failing our world and all the peoples therein.
Change comes through communication debate and a will to change, there are no time constraints, apart from the urgency that we are failing in our duty to leave a viable home for our children.
Time will tell on Obama, however as CJ comments he is now under different pressures, I am not sure what changes you expect him to bring about but I would be impressed to learn of any changes that he manages to effect.
C.J. Yip Yip! You are looking well! glad to see you here too, thanks to Oberon (X)
I think one of the major problems is that democracy is so corrupt and corruptable, was never meant to serve any other than the powers that be and we poor saps have fallen for the lie that we have any kind of choice.
To make any real changes it would seem, to me to be vital to challenge the very idea that we have any real democracy and that capitalism is a viable monetary system.
But thant's just me! Thanks again for your comments, lovely to meet you Shimmerrings and C.J. glad you are still around and still doing what you do.
C.J., I won't compare my version of keeping the faith as anything akin to Nazism... what a ridiculous comparison. I believe it was much more than faith that drove those people, something other. Never mind dark and light, both exist in the world.
Sharon Amber, I never intended to suggest that you even hinted of giving up. It is agreed, our democracy is not living up to what we thought it was to be... never mind what it was meant to be.
There are no miracle workers, only humans who can do great deeds. And humans err. I'm keepin' the faith for this one that we have now elected... not only did he get the popular vote, he got the electoral. He's in, so I'm hoping for the best.
Shimmerrings, good for you, keep the faith!
Please though, do not deny your own or others powers, there are miracle workers, magical poeople of all descriptions, changes can and do occur through miracles and we deny them at our peril.
Like you I continue to hope for the best, Obama has his work cut out for him but we will see.....
Make no mistake, I do believe in miracles, I've lived them... but, it would be wrong to expect one man to come in and change things to perfection in the blink of an eye. This would be expecting way too much of one human being. But, I do believe that by one man's vision, and the support of many, then yes, the seemingly impossible can happen (nothing is impossible)... and this is why I am not going to begin this new day by expressing negative commentary and doubt, because I believe that the words we say attach themselves and expand outward, and can radiate fear and despondency. I want my words to express the hope and faith that we need to move forward, and forgive (not forget, ever) the past. I felt the rush of that healing wind that ran across many hearts, when the announcement was made, I felt the joy and elation. And I'm going to walk in it. Yes!
