It all began two months ago with a muddled interview on a French regional newspaper website by Eric Cantona, the footballer turned film actor. Cantona, 44, suggested that it was time for a "bloodless" revolt against capitalism. "If 20 million people withdraw their money, the system collapses, no need for weapons, blood, or anything," he said. Was this a joke? Had Eric, the sardine philosopher, become a cod revolutionary?
More than 34,000 people around the world, mainly in France, Italy and Britain, have taken Cantona's big idea seriously. They have pledged their support to internet sites which have called for a co-ordinated "bank run" tomorrow. Another 27,000 are said to be "considering" joining in.

"...economic system probably fascist that will emerge by terror rather than a movement that will foster the economic interests of each of us...."
Is what we ALREADY HAVE !

"As a reminder today is the day when Europeans are supposed to withdraw money from their bank, not necessarily in a beneficial manner. And maybe the action is already having an impact with the Bank of Ireland apparently the first casualty. BBC reports: "Customers of one of Ireland's largest banks have been unable to access their cash accounts through ATMs or online. The Bank of Ireland said it became aware at 1000 GMT on Tuesday that ATMs were not working and customers were unable to make online transactions. A spokesperson said the fault lay with the bank's internal system and engineers were working to restore normal services." And by bank's internal system presumably one meant lack of money...Perhaps Eric Cantona will have the last laugh after all..."
Sadly good old Eric's idea, good as it is, will have little if any affect. For it work Eric would need all of France, every individual to focus on just one bank. If they did this would possibly break that particular bank but would leave the rest unscathed.
Modern banks are nothing like those of the wild west. They do not carry vast amounts of money. The money they have is used for investments or is floating in cyber space.
The Bank of Ireland spoke truthfully.
