Roger Swanson
Most Minnesotans have never heard of Roger Swanson. But among voyagers around the globe, he's known as the man who circled the world not once -- but three times -- on a 57-foot sailboat whose home port is listed as "Dunnell, MN."
His travels carried him from the tip of South Africa to the Arctic, winning international honors along the way. He also happened to launch a half-dozen manufacturing businesses in rural Minnesota, overseeing production of everything from snowblowers to farm equipment.
Swanson is being remembered this week as an extraordinary adventurer who lived an otherwise ordinary life in southwestern Minnesota.
"Roger Swanson was one of the greatest long-distance voyagers of this era or any other era," said Herb McCormick, senior editor of Cruising World magazine. "Few sailors have gone from the Arctic to the Antarctic and everywhere in between. He was one of a kind." He died December 25th 2012. R.I.P. Roger Swanson.

don't
but what will they think?...
you ask your self...
"they'll think terrible things about you"...
what the hell did you think they were going to think?...
they think terrible things about you anyhow...
that's what thinking is about...
it's about terrible things...

exterminate all rational thought
Naked Lunch is considered Burroughs' seminal work, and one of the landmark publications in the history of American literature. Extremely controversial in both its subject matter and its use of obscene language (something Burroughs recognized and intended), the book was banned in Boston and Los Angeles in the United States, and several European publishers were harassed. It was one of the most recent American books over which an obscenity trial was held. The book was banned in Boston in 1962 due to obscenity (notably child murder and acts of pedophilia), but that decision was reversed in 1966 by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. The Appeals Court found the book did not violate obscenity statutes, as it was found to have some social value. The hearing included testimony in support of the work by Allen Ginsberg and Norman Mailer.

earthquake
...growing up in southern california near the san andreas fault in el centro, it was inevitable that i would eventually experience a major earthquake event...
it happened one hot day...the shaking started and i rushed outside onto the front lawn...sprawled on my belly i witnessed the entire event...
as i looked down the street i saw waves of movement in the lawns, the street, and the sidewalks that resembled the waves on the ocean...i was on the ocean...
the cars parked on the street shook back and forth on their parking brakes...the trees all trembled in place...my body swayed on the waves of earth as the ground roiled and rumbled...
i was on the sea of uncertainty...the fate of time...it's an earth-quake!
